Dr Salma Mohamed Al Kindy is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry Sultan Qaboos University Oman. She started her academic career in 1989 at SQU where she became the first female Professor in the university’s history, and the first female to be appointed as the Dean College of Science. Prof. Al Kindy’s research interest focuses on the development of analytical methodology for monitoring of organic pollutants and toxic metal ions in water using luminescence techniques. and in developing sensitive and selective method for the essay of pharmaceutical components using microfluidic systems. Currently, she is developing methods to remove pollutants from waste water using Green Nano Chemistry approach. Prof. Al-Kindy has published more than 98 scientific papers in reputable scientific journals and has served as investigator for a number of funded research projects. She has attended many conferences and received invitation to deliver key note lectures and presentation and chair session in conferences. Prof. Al-Kindy was awarded Matsumae International Fellowship by the Matsumae International Foundation and Sabbatical Scholarship. She was the first Omani national to be elected as a member of the prestigious World Academy of Science (TWAS). She has been a role model for women in Science and is Oman’s recipient of the United States Department of State’s award for outstanding female scientist in 2013. In 2014 she received a Medal lecture from TWAS for her excellent contribution in science. She was awarded Lifetime achievement in chemistry by the Venus International Foundation in 2017.
